Success Story: Wobby
Success Story: Wobby
Wobby, a 3-year-old grey/white tabby, began life as a stray in the bustling Thermai park in Rhodes. A virus, likely panleukopenia, affected her as a kitten, leaving her with a slight tremor and slower movements. Her gentle, trembling gait made her a memorable figure among tourists, who adored her and often stopped to feed her. But this neurological disorder also placed her at greater risk, as escaping danger was difficult for her if other cats or dogs attacked.
Despite her challenges, Wobby remained friendly and affectionate. She often stayed with tourists long after the treats were gone, enjoying their company and the attention. But during the colder winter months, the park was quiet, with no tourists around, and the local caretakers became her only support, providing her with food and shelter.
In 2023, a Dutch visitor named Danique met Wobby while exploring Thermai and was charmed by her gentle spirit. Though she couldn’t adopt Wobby immediately, Danique couldn’t forget her. She returned to Rhodes in 2024 and, having a black-and-white cat named Toby already at home, she was finally ready to give Wobby the home she deserved.
Because of Wobby’s condition, taking her abroad was a careful process. Local veterinarians were consulted to ensure Wobby could handle the journey and adjust well to her new home and new mate, Toby. Danique had already left Rhodes to Holland, however her determination to adopt Wobby was unwavering, and with help from Monica, a fellow Dutch cat lover who was visiting Rhodes one month later, the trip was arranged. Monica’s calming and secure presence eased Wobby’s anxiety on the journey back to Holland - she was the ideal companion for this trip.
Upon arriving, Wobby took her time to adjust. Danique made sure to go through the introduction process one step at a time. Even Toby welcomed Wobby warmly, showing patience and kindness. Although wary at first, Wobby soon felt safe. She and Toby now share meals and sunbathe together, a testament to resilience, kindness, and the magic of finding a forever home.
