TsambiCats is not an organisation. We are two private individuals based in Rhodes, Greece, who have dedicated ourselves to the welfare of stray cats across the island. We run this initiative on donations and our own funds, and every decision we make is shaped by that reality.
We care for several stray cat colonies in Rhodes on a regular basis. This means regular spot-on flea treatments, deworming, vet visits, medical treatments and operations for the cats in our care. We know these cats by name. We monitor their health, manage their colonies and make sure they are safe.
We take part in TNR (trap-neuter-return) programmes together with other volunteers, and we systematically sterilise the cats in our colonies. Sterilisation is the most effective long-term tool for reducing stray cat suffering in Rhodes, and we treat it as a priority.
We are not a rescue hotline. Because we are two private people with limited capacity and no institutional funding, we cannot respond to individual rescue calls from across Rhodes. We focus our energy where we can make a consistent, lasting difference — in the colonies we already care for.
We do not run a shelter. We take in cats on a foster basis only when absolutely necessary and only when we happen to have space — which, given the number of animals already in our care, is rare. For cats destined for international adoption, we can try to help find foster arrangements, but we cannot guarantee availability.
Rhodes has no meaningful municipal support for stray animal welfare. That reality pushes volunteers to work together, and we do. We collaborate closely with other volunteers and work with several vets across different areas of the island. These are informal, trust-based relationships — we are not formally affiliated with any organisation.
We have successfully placed cats in loving homes across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the UK and the Netherlands. If you are based abroad and considering adopting a Rhodian cat, get in touch — we have experience navigating international pet transport and will guide you through the process.
Whether you're interested in adopting, volunteering, or supporting our cause, we invite you to join us on this journey of love and advocacy for stray cats. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of these precious animals. With your support, we can continue to make miracles happen, one cat at a time.
Emmanuel (Manolis) came to animal welfare three years ago, not through a plan but through a group of cats that turned up at a property he rents out for summer holidays. He took responsibility for them — vet visits, feeding, colony management — and they became a quiet fixture of the rental experience, offering guests an unexpected dose of feline companionship. That accidental beginning grew into something deliberate. Manolis began caring for other strays he encountered across Rhodes, and when some of those cats found permanent homes abroad, he started building the adoption pathway that now sits at the heart of TsambiCats. He is fluent in Greek, German and English.
Tania has lived in Rhodes for thirty years and has spent the last decade as a committed animal welfare volunteer, with cats as her particular focus. Originally from Serbia, she has built up deep hands-on experience nursing injured and sick animals back to health and finding them lasting homes. Every cat she owns was once a stray. Every day, she tends to multiple colonies in and around Rhodes Town — feeding, monitoring, treating, and making sure no animal goes unnoticed. Her combination of long experience, practical skill and genuine dedication makes her an exceptional caregiver for animals in need. Tania speaks Serbian, Greek and English.
